The state has given a boost to a senior housing plan in downtown Milton as part of an annual community development grant program.

Cathedral Square Corp. will receive a $560,000 deferred loan for the 30-unit project on Bombardier Road, Gov. Peter Shumlin and other officials announced Tuesday. Cathedral Square expects to break ground in April.

In total, more than $2.8 million in federal grant money will be used for eight Vermont projects through the Agency of Commerce and Community Development.

The Milton award is the largest amount announced this year. Other grant recipients include $300,000 for the Vermont Marble Museum in Proctor, $300,000 for a retaining wall replacement in Brattleboro and $25,000 for business area planning on Stony Hill in Bristol.
