Cathedral Square Volunteer Luncheon- Our Volunteers Think out of the Box!
In the spirit of recognizing our great team of volunteers, Cathedral Square held its 3rd Annual Volunteer Luncheon at Grand Way Commons on Thursday, May 30, 2013.
Our dedicated guests were treated to a delicious lunch of BBQ chicken, homemade potato salad and coleslaw. As a special treat, Cathedral Square staff prepared a wonderful array of desserts to put a finishing touch on the meal.
It was wonderful to see the room buzzing with conversations and laughter from our volunteers. Seasoned volunteers shared their stories and anecdotes with folks who have just begun to reap the benefits of sharing their time and services with our residents. Many echoed the sentiment that the benefit of volunteering is a mutual one, bringing as much pleasure to the giver as it does to the recipient.
The celebration ended on a cheerful note with over 30 prizes donated by area businesses all of whom see the benefits of volunteerism in our community.
Our 100 plus volunteers, come to us from all over the state, answering the call to help with projects and programs initiated by our Support and Services at Home (SASH) Coordinators. Whether it’s a onetime opportunity to assist a resident with moving, to ongoing commitments such as transcribing a resident’s life story, our volunteers are there! They also come to us with their own ideas, such as creating a dance piece intertwined with stories relayed by our residents, to programs on how to create nutritional, easy to prepare meals for residents with health concerns.
The 208 active volunteers put in 2,177 hours for the first quarter of 2013 alone, serving our 948 residents across Chittenden and Franklin Counties.
