Cathedral Square has been awarded a grant for $125,000 from the Alzheimer’s Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI) to enhance the quality and availability of dementia-specific respite care for people living with dementia and their caregivers in Chittenden County. Cathedral Square is one of 41 recipients chosen to receive grant funding from more than 200 applicants across the country. Funds will be used to pilot a new concept of providing respite care in Cathedral Square’s Memory Care at Allen Brook (MCAB) community in Williston to help caregivers get a break or respite from caring for their loved ones.

The gift comes from the Miller family through the Holly and Bob Miller Charitable Fund, long-time supporters of Cathedral Square’s mission and commitment to providing quality, affordable dementia care to those without means. MCAB serves very low-income Vermonters on Medicaid and is the only truly affordable memory-care residence in the state.
Cathedral Square announced that they met their $1 million fundraising goal for Memory Care at Allen Brook, their Williston-based residence for very low-income Vermonters on Medicaid and the only truly affordable memory-care residence in the state. The capital campaign was created last October to pay off the remaining debt on the property, a need identified when the pandemic caused unprecedented increases to their operating budget. Now that the debt is paid off, Allen Brook will remain sustainable into the future.
With generous support from the families of Holly & Bob Miller and Lois & J. Warren (“Mac”) McClure, Cathedral Square has launched a $1 million capital campaign to ensure the future of Memory Care at Allen Brook, its Williston-based residence for very low-income Vermonters on Medicaid. It is the only truly affordable memory-care residence in Vermont, as it accepts people on Medicaid and with Section 8 rental subsidy at the time of admission. Private residential care in Vermont for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia typically costs $10,000 a month or more.
In another first for Vermont, work is underway by the nonprofit Cathedral Square to create the state’s first affordable residence for Medicaid recipients who are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
