Bayview Crossing receives Efficiency Vermont’s Best of the Best Award

SOUTH HERO, VT — Cathedral Square’s Bayview Crossing in South Hero received Efficiency Vermont’s Best of the Best Award for Residential New Construction in the Multifamily Large Projects category at the Better Building by Design conference. Efficiency Vermont’s annual event brings together design professionals, leaders in building construction, and experts in climate workforce trades. Thirteen “Best of the Best” awards were given out to builders, architects, designers, and HVAC and plumbing installers for their commitment to energy excellence. Weimann Lamphere Architects designed the project and ReArch Company was the construction manager. Both firms accompanied Cathedral Square staff in receiving the award.
Bayview Crossing is a 30-unit affordable housing community for older adults, designed for positive aging. An independent living community, the development features SASH® (Support and Services at Home), an evidence-based care coordination program.
Bayview Crossing exceeds Efficiency Vermont’s high-performance thermal shell requirements, offers electrically powered cold climate air source heat pumps for heating and cooling, and features a 75.5 kW rooftop solar array producing approximately 30% of the electricity used. Other energy features include triple-pane windows, LED lighting, dense-packed cellulose insulation, an energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system, and partial solar power.
Located in the village of South Hero, Bayview Crossing is walkable to services, restaurants, and shops. Cathedral Square and C.I.D.E.R. (Champlain Islanders Developing Essential Resources) collaborated on a vision for many years, culminating in this development. C.I.D.E.R. offers transportation, delivered and congregate meals, and other services for older adults and people with disabilities in Grand Isle County. Bayview Crossing contains an office condo that serves as C.I.D.E.R. headquarters. C.I.D.E.R.’s location in Bayview Crossing is a benefit to residents, as C.I.D.E.R. and Cathedral Square’s SASH team collaborate on wellness programs for Bayview Crossing and community residents.
