SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT — Cathedral Square, a local nonprofit dedicated to creating affordable housing for older adults and adults with diverse needs, is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Renner, Interim Mayor of Winooski, to its Board of Directors. "Thomas' experience serving Vermonters, from his work with Senator Leahy to his leadership on the Winooski City Council, gives him a unique understanding of the housing challenges facing our communities," says Cathedral Square CEO Kim Fitzgerald. "His pragmatic approach to development and his commitment to equity align perfectly with our mission, and we're thrilled to welcome him to our board."

Thomas Renner is the Interim Mayor of Winooski, previously serving the community on the Safe, Healthy Connected People Commission. Thomas lives in Winooski with his husband Michael, an Army veteran, their dog Charlie, and six chickens. Thomas has dedicated his career to service, his first job after graduating from the University of Vermont was working for Senator Patrick Leahy. Through his roles serving Vermonters by working for federal representatives, Thomas has had the unique experience of traveling across Vermont, talking to Vermonters and businesses, and hearing their stories and what challenges they face in Vermont. On the Winooski City Council, Thomas has been a champion of pragmatic development to help with the housing crisis, small business growth, and equity work across the city.

“When The Very Rev. Greta Getlein approached me about the opportunity to join the board, I was truly thrilled,” shared Renner. “It felt like a meaningful chance to bring together my faith and my deep commitment to quality housing for seniors. Cathedral Square is an exceptional developer, creating thoughtfully designed, attractive housing where residents don’t just age with dignity—they thrive.”
