Housing Communities Under Development
We are always working to expand the supply of affordable, quality housing available for older adults and people with diverse needs in Vermont. You can check back here often for updates on housing communities currently under development, and be sure to visit our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about applying to live in a Cathedral Square community.
Highgate Village Housing, Highgate Center
Highgate Village Housing is a proposed 30-unit affordable housing development for older adults (55+) to be located in Highgate Center, Vermont. The site is in Highgate’s Designated Village Center, and the housing is a part of the village core revitalization master plan, which the town has been planning for many years. The building will feature one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as amenities for residents including a community room and kitchen, laundry room, and fitness room. SASH® will be offered on site to residents at no charge. Highgate Village Housing is in the pre-development stage. We hope to begin construction in 2027. Faywood Road, Grand Isle
Faywood Road is a proposed redevelopment of the Round Barn Apartments, a two-building, 24-unit, affordable housing community for older adults in Grand Isle, Vermont. Cathedral Square and Evernorth are partnering on this project, to improve housing quality and leverage a competitive HUD Green & Resilient Retrofit Program award to address energy efficiency and sustainability. The project proposes new construction of a 16-unit multifamily building to replace dated units in the existing 16-unit Round Barn as well as renovation of the existing 8-unit "Annex" building to modernize it and improve energy efficiency and accessibility. This project will also create community space to facilitate wellness programming, service delivery, and social engagement. We anticipate beginning construction in late winter/early spring 2027, and completion in spring 2028.
